State of Fitness is now offering a
21 day trial for $39!
For 21 consecutive days you will have access to the club and our mind body program which includes mat Pilates, a variety of yoga classes and stretch and roll classes.
In addition you will be able to try unlimited group training classes and up to six semi-private training sessions.
Our trial gives you the opportunity to work with our trainers, learn the equipment and get to know some of our members and staff.
We offer the trial to those who are 18 years and older, first time participants, and year round residents, and those who are interested in an annual or ongoing membership.

State of Fitness, a premier personal training club in East Lansing, Michigan, is home to many youth, adult, and professional athletes looking to take their fitness and sports performance to the next level. Our internship program is currently seeking 10 of the states most passionate and committed individuals interested in gaining the knowledge and experience to create GREATNESS in themselves and in others.
The State of Fitness internship includes:
Total of 240+ hours of instruction with State of Fitness’ personal training and sports performance curriculum in addition to administrative and marketing strategies in a 16 week internship.
Sports Performance Academy
Group Coaching class (10-14 people)
Semi-private Coaching (2-4 people)
The State of Fitness internship will require 15+ hours a week.
This elite-level internship is for serious individuals looking to enter the field of human performance and personal training. You will leave this internship with the knowledge and ability to immediately begin training and coaching at a high level. You will have the opportunity to observe and coach youth, collegiate, and professional athletes (NHL, NFL, LPGA, etc.) in addition to daily fitness clientele. You will be under direct supervision and guidance of Co-owner and Head Trainer Justin Grinnell.
Standout performers in this program may be considered candidates for hire at State of Fitness.

The Sports Performance Academy at State of Fitness offers the most comprehensive performance enhancement training including:
Athletes are closely supervised and coached by at least 2 coaches per 6 athletes. They guide them through a structured 70-minute workout and attention is always paid to proper technique and safety. All athletes from junior high, all the way up to the NFL, NHL, and LPGA have trained succefully at our Sports Performance Academy. Come take your game to the next level!

Each athlete follows a progressive exercise routine (progressively more challenging once basic techniques have been mastered)

TOTAL BODY FOUNDATIONS

Total Body Foundations is a small group coaching class offered for all levels to increase the knowledge and understanding of functional training. In these 50-60 minutes you will get a great workout with one of our highly qualified coaches. You will receive personal attention to form and understand the function of each exercise. TBF is a class all members must complete at least once to move on to the advance levels of group coaching.
Group coaching is a small personal coaching class that allows you to get an efficient full body workout that is sure to get you in shape, and keep you coming back for more! This class uses a wide variety of functional exercises and equipment such as kettlebells, slide boards, stability balls, TRX straps, resistance bands, free weights and more, in circuit style workout. These group coaching circuits create a big metabolic burn by incorporating a variety of strength, power, core, and cardio like exercises to elevate the metabolism and burn fat. This class is for all fitness levels who have moved beyond Total Body Foundations class.
FIT OVER 50 GROUP COACHING
Fit over 50 is a group coaching class designed with our members 50+ years of age in mind. Class includes a dynamic warm up, core routine, circuit training, metabolic conditioning, and stretching at a less intense level than our other group coaching classes. The workouts are designed to allow each member the opportunity to master the exercises and maximize their potential.
SEMI PRIVATE COACHING
Semi-Private coaching is small group training that is based around a balanced workout routine that is designed to build muscle, burn fat and increase overall strength. Each session includes foam rolling and stretching, corrective exercises, a dynamic warmup, strength routine hitting all major muscle groups and a metabolic finisher. Semi-private sessions are designed with structure and consistency to ensure members can master each skill yet still push to their edge. Modifications, progressions and regressions are offered for all exercises to match each person's fitness level.
SEMI-PRIVATE COACHING-KETTLEBELLS
This semi-private coaching session is a full body Kettlebell workout that emphasizes fat burning and total body conditioning. Class will be 50 min and hit every major muscle group in the body! Whether you have any kettlebell experience or not, this class will be a great addition to your weight training program.
All of our trainers are available for private coaching sessions for members or guests that desire a more personal and/or private session.
All sessions are 50-55 minutes in length.

MIND BODY
Mat Pilates:
This class focuses on strengthening the core and is taught in movement based flowing style that allows the body to transform from the inside out. Noticeable benefits include better posture, increased strength, stamina, tone, flexibility and an overall feeling of wellness. Come enjoy building an energized, pain-free and strong body! Beginner/intermediate level mat class.
Power Yoga:
This class will offer students a more intense challenge and detox for the body and mind. A flow-style class, power yoga will use breath work, sun salutations, standing and seated postures to begin to heat the body from the inside out, and will offer more advanced posture choices to deepen one's practice, such as inversions, arm balances and core work. An exhilarating experience leaving you feeling detoxed, balanced and calm. Intermediate beginners to advanced level class.
Stretch and Roll:
This self-paced, relaxing class is designed to improve overall tissue quality by developing flexibility and teaching self-myofascial release techniques. This class is very basic and is easily modified to cater to each individual's flexibility and level and/or needs.
Vinyasa Yoga:
Similar to slow flow, vinyasa classes will also explore sun salutations, standing postures and seated postures, moving from one posture to another using breath as the vehicle. Vinyasa will move slightly quicker and more intermediated postures will be offered. Students will be encouraged to clear the mind and body of unnecessary tension to detox, find clarity and feel balanced. Beginners up to advanced levels welcomed.

Ben Boudro is a 2011 graduate from Michigan State University with a Bachelors of Science in Kinesiology specializing in Exercise Science and Health Promotion. He is a certified personal trainer through the American Counsel of Exercise (ACE).
Ben also completed an internship at State of Fitness in 2011 under the guidance of Justin Grinnell and Rebecca Klinger where he shadowed and assisted with the various classes offered and learned how to work with and train a wide variety of clientele.
Ben is a highly accomplished athlete who competed five years on Michigan State University's Varsity Men's Wrestling team. Ben's responsibility and hard work did not go unnoticed, as he was named captain of the team during the 2010-2011 season. Along with competing as a Division 1 athlete, Ben also serves as an intern in the Michigan State University Varsity weight rooms. He trains a wide variety of MSU athletes such as the men's football team, wrestling team, women's softball team and women's soccer team.
Ben also trains a wide variety of youth athletes as he is a co-owner of a successful wrestling camp that he started with his three brothers. The camps consist of youth athletes ranging from the age of 5-18 years old.
Ben's athletic experience and wide range of training abilities provides him with the tools to help any client achieve their fitness goals.

Kyle is grateful to now be a part of the State of Fitness team, after completing his internship during the summer of 2011. He completed his personal training certification in the spring of 2011 through the National Academy of Sport Medicine.
Kyle was raised to understand the importance of character, discipline, and enjoyment within the context of athletic competition. Growing up, Kyle competed in such sports as football, baseball, soccer, basketball, and tennis. He was a three-sport athlete in high school and a member of a state championship soccer team his junior year. He went on to attend Calvin College, where he played 4 years of baseball and helped teach and lead the weight lifting program. Kyle hopes to use his experience to help athletes and non-athletes alike to accomplish their fitness goals and improve their overall quality of life.
Kyle is passionate about helping others become the best they can be, and believes we have a responsibility to care for the body God has given us. He looks forward to working with the staff and clients at State of Fitness.

Justin Grinnell is currently the Co-owner andHead Trainer of State of Fitness .
Justin received his Bachelors of Science in Kinesiology from Michigan State University specializing in Exercise Science, Fitness Leadership, Athletic Administration, and Health Promotion in 2004.
He is a Certified Personal Trainer through The National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM), and the International Sports Sciences Association (ISSA). He holds a certification from The National Strength and Conditioning Association as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS). Justin is also Level I Kettlebell Athletics Certified.
His experience for a young coach is extensive as he started training over nine years ago when he helped his brother sign with the New York Yankees organization in 2003. Since then he has accumulated over 17,000 hours of training and coaching experience.
In 2004 Justin started to work as an intern for Michigan State University Strength and conditioning department, where he gained exceptional knowledge and experience as he worked with Division I college athletes everyday.
Justin specializes in working with all populations and athletes ranging from the youth to the professional athlete, but his real passion is helping prepare high school athletes for their upcoming season. Injury prevention is his number one priority when it comes to strength and conditioning, especially because of such a high rise in injuries in high school athletics. Justin has worked with hundreds of high school athletes and teams, and has helped over 60 athletes advance to the college level. Justin has also worked with many athletes at the college and professional level as well.
Justin takes a preventative approach with his personal training clients by implementing Self Myofascial Release, Active Integrated Stretching, and Rehabilitative Exercise Techniques, as well as traditional style strength and conditioning. Functional strength and core training, Olympic lifting, powerlifting, and functional bodybuilding round out his training philosophies.
Justin is a featured writer for Healthy and Fit Magazine, where he writes a monthly column.
Justin was born in Lansing, Michigan in 1981, where he grew up and attended school. Justin was a three sport athlete in high school where he played basketball, baseball, and football at Waverly High School in Lansing Michigan, where he was a part of the 2000 Class A State Championship basketball team which ended the season #20 in the country.
Justin then continued his athletics while competing in powerlifting, and then transitioning into bodybuilding. He competed in 7 different shows from 2003 to 2006, where he placed in the top 5 in all shows but 2.

Rebecca Klinger, co-owner of State of Fitness, is a certified athletic trainer and personal trainer. She has combined her diverse education and experience with energy and passion dedicated to every person she has the privilege to train. Rebecca utilizes a comprehensive approach based on the persons age and fitness level. She makes a commitment to assess each persons needs and design a comprehensive, individualized program that integrates fitness, nutrition, and massage therapy so each person will achieve a healthier lifestyle or reach their athletic performance goals.
Rebecca received her Bachelor of Arts in Exercise and Health Science from Alma College and Master of Science in Kinesiology from Michigan State University. Rebecca attended the Titleist Performance Institute to become a level two certified golf fitness instructor and certified golf medical instructor and is enrolled in the Gray Institute of Functional Transformation (GIFT) program. Her expertise includes healthy lifestyle management, rehabilitation of injuries, golf fitness and medical instruction, and improving sports performance of high school, collegiate, Olympic, and professional athletes.
Rebecca continues to make a commitment to a healthy lifestyle in her personal life. She has been a competitive figure skater, a high school and collegiate track and field athlete, and currently competes in the pro-am division of American Smooth and American Rhythm ballroom dancing. She has coached track and field at the high school and collegiate levels. In addition to strength training and cardiovascular fitness, Rebecca enjoys golf, downhill skiing, yoga, tennis, and hiking.

DEVIN MONGRAIN

Devin is a 2010 graduate from Michigan State University with a Bachelors of Science in Kinesiology specializing in Exercise Science and Health Promotion. He is a certified personal trainer through the American Council on Exercise (ACE).
Devin also completed an internship at State of Fitness in 2010 under the guidance of
Justin Grinnell and Rebecca Klinger where he shadowed and assisted with the various classes offered, and learned how to work with and train a wide variety of clientele.
Devin was a year-round soccer player with involvement in varsity and club teams. With a strong motivation to become the best that he could be on the field, he was always seeking better ways to train and more efficiently prepare him for the season. Devins training however, did not subside after graduation from Haslett High School. With the dream of some day becoming a personal trainer, Devin continued to learn and educate himself.
Devin has well-rounded experience in various types of training, which include bodybuilding, power/Olympic lifting, and functional training. His primary focus stems from previous employment at Haslett High School working with student athletes. Since 2006, Devin has worked in the Haslett High School weight room assisting athletes and community members with various types of training.
Devin takes great pride in his passion for health and fitness and can guarantee doing everything he can to help you achieve your goals.

Jessica is a 2011 graduate from Michigan State University with a Bachelors of Science in Kinesioloy specializing in Exercise Science. She is a certified personal trainer through the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM).
Jessica completed her MSU internship at State of Fitness in the Spring of 2011. Under the supervision and guidance of Justin Grinnell and Rebecca Klinger, Jessica gained valuable experience in training clients.
Jessica is a long-distance runner, completing many road races ranging from 5k to marathon. This October the Chicago marathon will be her third 26.2 mile race. Jessica played varsity soccer and volleyball throughout high school. She has also completed triathlons and adventure races.
